MARK W. BOENKE, P.E.
PRESIDENT
Upon graduation from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Mr. Boenke went to work for SIECO, a southern Indiana consulting engineering firm, in their inspection department and supervised federally funded county road and bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects. In 1994, Mr. Boenke began working for the Indiana Department of Transportation (InDOT) as Project Engineer. While with InDOT, Mr. Boenke managed major interstate road and bridge rehabilitation and replacement contracts. This included highway lighting, drainage, traffic markings, and steel structures. In 1999, Mr. Boenke moved from highway construction to maintenance when he was hired by VMS, Inc. in Virginia. With VMS, Inc., he gained experience in maintenance of interstate facilities and began to develop contracts, specifications, and engineering estimates for replacement and repair of deficient assets based upon condition assessments and budget constraints. In 2002, Mr. Boenke started Pillar Engineering & Surveying, P.C. in pursuit of land use engineering and design. Having a construction and maintenance (field) background enables Mr. Boenke to design projects on a level of constructability and within a scale of economics sometimes not otherwise found with other firms. This background is also very important in managing projects and contractors. With Pillar, Mr. Boenke has developed erosion and sediment control plans, RV park design, subdivision planning and design, stormwater management and design including Low Impact Design (LID), sewer and water line designs and septic designs, as well as consulted on several civil engineering projects. He has worked on residential, commercial, recreational, industrial and municipal projects giving him a wide scope of experience in the land use field. Through these jobs he has worked with railroads, utility companies, municipal governments and state and federal agencies (VDOT, DEQ, DCR, USACE) and their ordinances and standards.
