Construction Inspection

During construction we make sure you are getting what you are paying for through our quality assurance/quality control inspections and material testing. Our Construction Inspection includes: nuclear density testing of asphalt, aggregate, and soils; asphalt; concrete testing; utility; pavement markings placement; erosion & sediment control placement. Our inspectors are Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), ACI and Troxler certified. Pillar also performs foundation inspections for structural integrity as well as FHA/HUD compliance.

QA/QC Plan Conformance – Our construction inspectors will not only observe and inspect the contractor to ensure contract and plan conformance but can also perform on-site testing of material.

Asphalt - inspection on the placement, compaction, and density testing of Hot Mix Asphalt, including roller patterns, control strips and test sections.

Concrete Testing - inspection on the placement and testing of Portland Cement Concrete, including slump, air content, yield, and strength tests

Erosion & Sediment Control – placement, inspection and maintenance of erosion & sediment control measures

Grading – inspection of grading to include cutting and filling operations

Nuclear Gauge – using our own Troxler® gauge we can test density and moisture for soil, aggregate, and asphalt

Pavement Markings - inspection and management of any type of pavement marking, including layout, pre-marking, materials, application, and quality control testing

Utility – inspection of water and sewer line and appurtenances installation and pressure or vacuum testing

Structural Foundation Inspection - We perform inspections for homebuyers who are questioning the structural integrity of an existing cracked foundation. We spend time on site and document the findings in a report that explains and clarifies the cracking both narratively and pictorially.

FHA/HUD Foundation Inspection - We also perform inspections on manufactured housing for compliance with FHA/HUD handbook guidelines as set forth in paragraph 3-4B in relation to existing properties (paragraph 3-4C) of publication 4145.1 Rev-2 as republished in the Permanent Foundations Guide for Manufactured Housing dated September 1996.
